NOTE
Through this website, you are about to discover the other side of the Korean Music Industry that is often shadowed by the companies in which idols work. You will look through the first through fourth generation of these Idols. From toxic lifestyles that they are forced to follow to their committing suicide, there are a lot of topics that the fans overlook. We will dive deeply into the dark side and bring it to light.
We aim to highlight the overlooked aspects of the Korean Music Industry. Following the lines of the saying “all that glitters is not gold,” we plan to remove this gold plating and reveal the proper form by mapping through various topics. From the start of this industry to the up-and-coming 4th generations, the one-screen quality may have evolved, but the life beyond has deteriorated through this period.
Their lives involve immense interactions with the fandom. While having fandoms may seem like a source to boost confidence, the “sasaeng fans” with their obsessive expectations, bring the idol down to their downfall.
Through this medium, we want to link different aspects, like the psychological distress faced by fans and idols, and delve into detail about the negative impact of fandom on the industry. The sexualization of minor idols has increased drastically over the years. We also want to highlight why we termed these individuals “Idols” and not just artists. By giving them this particular term, we have already put them on a pedestal, which is now leading to a series of suicides and scandals.
Through this website, you might have a different perspective on the ‘glamorous world’ of the Korean music industry, as everyone calls it by their famous term, ‘KPOP.’
